2018-19 AMHA Events in Airdrie

This year brings a lot of changes to the organization with a focus on building a stronger hockey community and culture in Airdrie. Our goal is to have our teams and members more involved and visibly active within our great city through events and activities. In doing this, AMHA will achieve its goal of creating strong, community-minded leaders through our hockey players, and support and build long-lasting connections with local businesses.

To all our teams who take the time to volunteer, donate and be leaders in our community  - THANK YOU.

First Shift

In 2019 Airdrie Minor Hockey had the opportunity to host the Canadian Tire and Bauer ‘First Shift Program.” This program offered a low commitment, affordable and fun introduction to Hockey for children aged 6-12 who had never played hockey before or never skated. The program was run by AMHA’s PeeWee AA coach Spencer Barlow, who was joined by several AMHA coaches from different levels and backgrounds. The coaches were joined by two AMHA athletes.
The participants took part in a Welcome Event that included professional fitting and distribution of all of their necessary hockey gear. This was followed by six weeks of one-hour on-ice-sessions. The sessions allowed athletes an opportunity to try out Canada's game in a fun, safe environment. The emphasis on fun and skill-development was very apparent in the sessions with many parents and athletes commenting on what an amazing program it was.
Thank you to coaches Spencer Barlow, Zoey Crispens, Stephen Seekings, Sean Hunter, Mike Street, Mason Macleod, Clinton Ziemer, Jeremy Walker, Jared Brookshaw and Jamie Tittemore for making the program a huge success and igniting a passion in the next generation of athletes. Click here to view the album.

Team India

In November of 2018, AMHA had the opportunity to host Team India Women’s National Ice Hockey team for a series of player and coach development camps. This came as part of AMHA’s organizational restructuring, to ensure more community involvement - both where we live and within our Hockey community.
The team relies solely on fundraising efforts of their own to travel for development camps, tournaments, and events. Although men’s ice hockey has been played in India since 1989, the team only played their first game in 2016. They relied solely on second-hand equipment from the men's team, and donations from fellow hockey
countries like Canada. However, their dedication and passion for the sport have begun to garner them global attention after winning their first ever international match in 2017 at the Challenge Cup of Asia.
Team India had the incredible opportunity to play AMHA’s own Bantam ‘B’ Rockies Team and Midget ‘B’ Rockies team. Team India overcame the AMHA Rockies female bantam team 5-1 in its first win ever on Canadian soil, before losing 3-1 to the Rockies midget team the following night. Click here to view the album.

Atom Tier 3 team adopted a family and delivered the gifts and hamper goods tonight after practice.  The boys did all the shopping and delivered 5 boxes to the Lionesses Christmas Hamper Program.

The 3rd Annual Turkey Bowl was a huge success in 2018!  Between the Female Atom A, Female Atom B, and Female Midget AA teams they donated 1015 turkeys to the Airdrie Food Bank. Over doubling their goal and raising the bar for years to come.   This donation not only fed families in Airdrie but was also sent to rural communities across Alberta that had a shortage of turkeys over the holiday season.

With nearly 750 pounds of food donations and over $100 in cash collected on behalf of the Airdrie Food Bank, Airdrie Atom Travel T1 Red would like to thank the residents of the City of Airdrie and our AMHA family for the generous contributions!
